Moose Madness Festival-- October 16-18, 2008
A Gunflint Trail and Grand Marais Festival. Late fall is an excellent time to view moose along the Gunflint Trail. During this late fall festival you can travel the Gunflint Trail in search of a moose or two and take part in Moose Festival Activities. Stay one night at regular summer rate and receive each additional night at 20% off rate. Other Special packages are not included. Usually 3rd Weekend in October. |

Front Row Seating at the Beargrease Sled Dog Race-- January 25, 2009
Take in all the race excitement, starting with pre-race events, the action packed start in Duluth, the mushers progress along the race trail, the festivities during the mid-trail turn-around at Trail Center Restaurant on the Gunflint Trail and the mushers return and finish in Duluth. Spend Saturday and Sunday, January 24 and 25 at the Ellery House Bed and Breakfast in Duluth, a classic Victorian B&B inn (voted one of the "Best in the Midwest" by Arlington's B&B Journal). Take in the Race at the exciting start on January 25. On Monday, January 26, follow the mushers as they travel the race route along the North Shore with VIP status at Sawbill checkpoint with "on the trail" lunch. Spend January 26 and 27 at the Poplar Creek Guesthouse Bed and Breakfast located on the race route, one mile from Trail Center the race turn-around point on the Gunflint Trail. Hosts at the Guesthouse are Ted Young, former musher and his wife Barbara. Ted was one of the organizers of the Gunflint Mail-Run Dog Sled Race in the mid 1980's. The Mail-Run was the predecessor to the Beargrease Race. Ted and his team raced in the "first" unofficial Beargrease Race. One evening Ted Young might even present a "The History of Dog Sledding on the Gunflint" at the Poplar Creek Guesthouse Bed and Breakfast. On January 28, follow the mushers as they return to the race finish in Duluth. Price- $280/person double occupancy, plus taxes. Additional Options:

Winter Tracks-- February 26-March 2, 2009

The exciting winter festival is sponsored by the Gunflint Trail businesses and features events and activities all along the Gunflint Trail. Make some tracks of your own! Spend three or more nights at Poplar Creek Guesthouse B&B or either of our cabins and take 25% off each additional night after the first two nights. |

2009 May Tree Planting Weekends- The Gunflint Green-Up
Join other friends of the Gunflint at the second annual Gunflint Trail Tree Planting weekends. At Poplar Creek Guesthouse and cabins two weekends have been dedicated to helping to reforest the area from the effects of the 2007 Ham Lake Fire and our ongoing reforestation of the Poplar Creek/Little Ollie area devastated by the 1999 BWCA Blowdown. We provide tree planting instruction, planting equipment and tree seedlings, two nights lodging with Barbara's famous breakfasts each morning. One day planting trees with a trail lunch. Also included during your stay, Ted will make a presentation of the Area's Fire history, importance and Reforestation.
Rate for either weekend $110 per/person plus taxes double occupancy. |
